El Esteco has been making wine here since 1892 and runs tastings, vineyard walks, and evening tastings that end around a bonfire; Piattelli's hillside winery pairs its reserve Torrontes with views over the red rock of the valley. The town itself is compact, wineries start two blocks from the plaza, and the drive in through the Quebrada de las Conchas is one of the great wine-country approaches anywhere.

The bodega (winery) system is well set up for serious visitors: most producers in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley offer structured tastings and cellar tours, and smaller boutique bodegas in the Uco Valley are making wines at the highest international level. March and April bring the harvest, when most bodegas open for vendimia experiences. Mendoza also has one of the best food scenes in South America, which makes rest days between bodega visits worthwhile.

- Buenos AiresNov DecThe Argentine Open at Palermo is not a big polo tournament, it is the polo tournament: contested since 1893, the final leg of the Triple Crown, and the only stage where 40-goal teams, the sport's perfect score, take the field. The Campo Argentino de Polo has sat inside the city since 1928 and is called the Cathedral of Polo without irony, because Argentina breeds the horses, raises the ten-goal players, and sets the world standard. November Saturdays fill the stands with a cross-section of the city, and an estancia polo day within an hour of town lets you swing a mallet yourself before you watch the best alive do it.
- Iguazu FallsMar Apr May Aug Sep OctIguazu is the world's largest waterfall system, roughly 275 falls across a 2.7-kilometer front, and the Argentine side owns about 80 percent of them, with catwalks running above, below, and finally to the lip of the Garganta del Diablo, where the river simply disappears. It is also a living spectacle rather than a static one: flow swings from around 1,500 cubic meters a second to ten times that in flood, so no two visits are the same. The Gran Aventura boat run drives you under San Martin Falls if witnessing is not enough, and coatis, toucans, and butterflies work the Atlantic Forest trails between viewpoints.
