Why here
The Nine Moons of Cosquin are Argentine folklore's center of gravity: nine consecutive January nights on the Atahualpa Yupanqui stage in the Plaza Prospero Molina, running since 1961, the stage where Mercedes Sosa broke out in 1965 and careers are still made. The paid evening shows are only half the festival; after midnight the whole town becomes penas, informal gatherings where guitars circulate until dawn, and the days fill with free luthier fairs, dance academies, and artisan markets. The Jesus Maria gaucho festival runs the week before an hour away, so January in the Cordoba sierras is a full folk circuit.
Best months
Held annually across the last week of January; the 66th edition runs January 24 to February 1, 2026. High-summer heat, open-air nights. Night tickets sell through the festival's official channels; the penas are free and go later than you will.
Getting there & around
Fly to Cordoba (COR), then an hour to Cosquin. Lodging across the Punilla valley towns sells out months ahead of the Nine Moons; book by October.
