Osumi CanyonsJun Jul Aug SepThe Osumi cuts a thirteen-kilometer slot through Skrapar up to eighty meters deep and, at points, only three or four meters wide, with waterfalls, swim-through chambers, and rock the river polishes fresh every spring. It is Albania's canyoning benchmark and a rare two-season venue: summer's low water opens the canyon to guided descents, and spring's snowmelt turns the same gorge into a rafting run. Albania Rafting Group has pioneered the river since 1999 with federation-certified guides and hosts the national championship here; Flow Albania runs the Berat-based canyon and tubing programs.

Tiranayear-roundTirana's food scene is in a documented boom: a first wave of new-Albanian restaurants built on farm sourcing and the Ottoman-Balkan-Italian crossover that is the national palate, layered over street staples, byrek from the right window, tave dheu from a clay dish, that reward a decoder. Two dedicated operators now run daily departures: Albanian Food Tours, founded in 2017, walks markets and kitchens and runs cooking classes and week-long culinary trips, while Food Tour Tirana leaves the Opera House steps daily in four languages. It is the cheapest serious food city in Europe right now, and it knows it.

GjirokasterApr May Jun Sep OctSouthern Albania's riding follows the old caravan trails, routes that pack horses served into living memory, through the Vjosa Wild River National Park and the Zagoria valley's stone villages. Caravan Horse Riding Albania, based at Gjirokaster since 2011 with its own herd of forty-five, runs day rides through multi-day trails including a twelve-day Vjosa expedition staged twice a year; a Permet guesthouse operation covers the Lengarica canyon rides at the valley's far end. The UNESCO stone city itself, Ottoman roofs stacked on a mountainside, anchors the non-riding days.

Mainstage FestivalsDhermiJunKala put the Albanian Riviera on the electronic music map: since 2018, one early-June week fills Dhermi's beach village with six open-air stages wedged between the Ceraunian mountains and the Ionian, in a boutique accommodation-inclusive format capped at a few thousand guests. Clash called it the new standard for beachside festivals, and the cap is the point: you swim at the stage you danced at, the headliners eat at the next table, and the village stays a village. Sold out is the permanent condition; the announcement of dates is the starting gun.

Paragliding

Llogara PassJul Aug Sep OctThe Llogara Pass launch sits at roughly a thousand meters above the Albanian Riviera, and the flight is the country in one glide: off the mountain wall, over the pines, down to a beach landing at Palase where the Adriatic and Ionian formally meet. Stable summer thermals off the Ionian give reliable morning-to-mid-afternoon windows most days, and the operators are the country's originals, including Albania's first paragliding school, APPI-affiliated since 2012. At around a hundred euros a tandem, it is one of the cheapest top-to-sea flights in Europe.

DoberdolJan Feb MarAlbania's skiing is honest frontier skiing, and Doberdol is its proof: an untracked plateau at 1,800 meters in the Accursed Mountains with ridges to 2,500, served by the Balkans' only snowcat operation, six-day packages, guides, avalanche kit, and nobody else's tracks. The touring alternative climbs Korab, at 2,764 meters the shared highest point of Albania and North Macedonia, on eight-day February-March programs. There are no lift lines because there are no lifts; the trade is weather windows, 4x4 approaches, and skiing that still feels like discovery.

Trekking / Hiking

ThethJun Jul Aug SepThe Valbona-to-Theth pass at 1,795 meters links the two signature valleys of the Accursed Mountains and anchors the 192-kilometer tri-border Peaks of the Balkans circuit, approached by the Koman Lake ferry, one of Europe's great inland boat rides. The culture gives the walking its depth: Theth's lock-in tower stands witness to the Kanun highland code, and the guesthouses that feed trekkers are the same families that lived it. Zbulo built many of the region's trails and handles the cross-border permits; Outdoor Albania has run the classic pass for twenty-five years.

The local operators predate the park by a decade, run certified guides, and price a half day on Europe's most argued-over river at the cost of a city lunch. It is whitewater as a statement: this is what every river here looked like before concrete.

The estates teach it family-first: Cobo has bottled since 1996 on a century of viticulture with cellar tours by appointment, and Alpeta at Roshnik runs tastings, harvest participation, a farm restaurant, and a guesthouse, recognition sealed by TIME's World's Greatest Places list in 2025. Tastings cost ten to twenty-five euros, which for grapes this rare is the best-value ampelography lesson on the continent.
