Why here
No other European capital lets you descend into the dictator's own hundred-room nuclear bunker and then read the surveillance state's files in its actual headquarters. Bunk'Art 1 fills Enver Hoxha's five-story atomic shelter by the Dajti cable car with history and art installations, Bunk'Art 2 does the same beneath the ministries downtown, and the House of Leaves, the National Museum of Secret Surveillance in the Sigurimi's interception HQ, won European Museum of the Year in 2020. Together they are the Balkans' definitive Cold War museum cluster, at nine euros a door, in the city that had seven hundred thousand bunkers to choose from.
Best months
Year-round and the best rainy-day anchor in the country; both Bunk'Art sites open daily. The National History Museum is closed for reconstruction until around 2028, so this cluster is the capital's museum story for now.
Getting there & around
Bunk'Art 1 pairs with the Dajti cable car; Bunk'Art 2 and the House of Leaves sit downtown. Tickets run a few euros each, no advance booking needed.

Bunk'Art
OrganizerTwo museum bunkers run as a pair in Tirana. Bunk'art 1, in the five-story atomic bunker built for Enver Hoxha on Rruga Fadil Deliu behind the cable-car station, recounts the key decades of Albanian history from the Italian occupation of 1939 through 1990. Bunk'art 2, on Rruga Abdi Toptani opposite the municipality, fills the Interior Ministry's former anti-nuclear shelter with the story of the police and the Sigurimi under the dictatorship. Both open daily from 9:30, to 17:30 and 18:30 respectively.
