Canyoning in Osumi Canyons
A thirteen-kilometer slot canyon up to eighty meters deep and at points four meters wide, Albania's canyoning benchmark.
Why here
The Osumi cuts a thirteen-kilometer slot through Skrapar up to eighty meters deep and, at points, only three or four meters wide, with waterfalls, swim-through chambers, and rock the river polishes fresh every spring. It is Albania's canyoning benchmark and a rare two-season venue: summer's low water opens the canyon to guided descents, and spring's snowmelt turns the same gorge into a rafting run. Albania Rafting Group has pioneered the river since 1999 with federation-certified guides and hosts the national championship here; Flow Albania runs the Berat-based canyon and tubing programs.
Best months
June to September for canyoning at low water; March to May is the rafting variant. Swimming and basic scrambling suffice on the standard lines, with rappels on some routes. Guides provide wetsuits and helmets.
Getting there & around
Access via Corovoda, ninety minutes from Berat. Guided days run 30-50 euros with gear; combine with Berat's UNESCO old town and wine country.
