Why here

Etna is a living summit: Europe's highest and most active volcano at roughly 3,350 meters, UNESCO-listed, with steaming fumaroles, fresh lava fields, and the occasional strombolian rumble on a day-trip scale. Above about 2,900 meters the law requires a certified guide, and Sicily maintains a guiding category that exists almost nowhere else on earth, the volcanological guide, certified alongside alpine guides by the regional college. The classic north-side ascent runs by 4x4 to 2,920 meters and on foot to the Bocca Nuova rim, four to five hours of real altitude on a mountain that is actively deciding what it will look like next year.

April to June and September to October are the comfortable windows; summer bakes the lower slopes and winter turns the upper mountain into a ski-touring niche. Itineraries flex with the volcano's activity bulletins, which is part of the experience.
