Yoga Retreat in TalallaLK
A crescent of golden sand on Sri Lanka's south coast, quieter than its neighbors and backed by palms and paddy. Home to one of Asia's longest-running beachfront yoga retreats.
Why here
Talalla is what people picture when they book a yoga retreat: a protected crescent bay with no beach clubs, a retreat that has taught daily practice on the same beachfront for over twenty years, and a rhythm of morning vinyasa, ocean swims, and early nights that resets a nervous system in under a week. The retreat model here is unusually flexible, drop-in classes, scheduled all-inclusive weeks, and visiting-teacher programs, so it works both for a dedicated retreat trip and as the restorative anchor of a wider Sri Lanka loop, with Weligama's surf and Mirissa's whales each under an hour away.
Best months
Classes and retreats run year-round; the south coast's dry, sunny season is November through April, which is also when visiting-teacher retreats concentrate. May through October brings the southwest monsoon's afternoon rain and emptier, greener grounds at lower rates. The bay stays swimmable in both seasons.
Getting there & around
Talalla sits between Matara and Dikwella on the south coast, about three hours from Colombo (CMB) via the Southern Expressway. Book scheduled retreat weeks a month or more ahead for the winter season; drop-in classes and shorter stays are flexible outside peak. Tuk-tuks connect the surf and whale towns along the coast.
