Whitewater Kayaking / Rafting in Zambezi GorgeZW

The gorges below Victoria Falls create one of the world's most iconic commercial whitewater experiences — Grade 5 rapids through a narrow basalt canyon, with the spray of the falls visible from the put-in. Accessible from both Zimbabwe and Zambia, peak season runs August through December.

Why here

The Zambezi's first 24 km below Victoria Falls is one of the most famous commercial whitewater runs in the world — steep, basalt-walled gorges with named Grade 5 rapids (The Washing Machine, Oblivion, Commercial Suicide) that have earned their reputations. The backdrop of the world's largest waterfall visible from the put-in is unlike anywhere else. This is bucket-list rafting accessible to intermediate paddlers willing to swim.

Low water season (August–December) exposes the full Grade 5 character of the gorge. High water (January–July) raises the river 3–4 metres, washing out some rapids but creating massive wave trains and surf features. Most commercial operators consider August–December the definitive season. Water is warm year-round (22–26°C) — no wetsuit needed. Victoria Falls spray can reduce visibility at put-in during high water.
