Surfing in TaghazoutMA
A small Moroccan fishing village turned surf hub. Right-hand point breaks like Anchor Point peel for hundreds of metres in the right swell.
Why here
Anchor Point is one of the great right-hand point breaks in the world — long, peeling walls that reward rail-to-rail surfing. The surrounding coast has a dozen named breaks across all skill levels. Only 3 hours from major European airports and cheap to operate in.
Best months
N and NW Atlantic groundswell October–April. Water 18–22°C, shorty or light full suit. Mornings typically offshore, afternoons onshore — time sessions accordingly. Anchor Point handles serious swell; Hash Point and Mysteries suit beginners.
Getting there & around
Fly to Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) — direct flights from the UK (EasyJet, TUI, Ryanair), Ireland, France, Germany, and Netherlands; well-connected year-round for the surf season. Transfer to Taghazout: approximately 30 minutes north of the airport ($10-15 USD taxi or included in most camp packages). Taghazout village is very compact — accommodation, food stalls, and surf schools all within walking distance. Dominant booking model: surf camp packages covering accommodation, meals, transfers, instruction, and equipment — competitive on value and widely available (Surf Berbère, Surf Maroc, Taghazout Surf Camp). All-in week packages typically €500-900 per person depending on season and accommodation standard. Hire car not required for most visitors: camps run daily transfers to breaks (Anchor Point, Hash Point, Killer Point, Panoramas) based on conditions. Independent surfers with a car have more flexibility to reach less-crowded alternatives north and south. Bring cash (MAD or EUR) — card acceptance limited outside camp offices and Agadir city. Combine with Agadir souk, a tagine cooking class, and a day trip into the Anti-Atlas foothills (1-1.5 hours inland).
