Why here

Unstad is the birthplace of Arctic surfing. Locals have ridden this horseshoe bay since 1963, and its geometry catches even small North Atlantic swells, making it Lofoten's most consistent break and the world's most famous cold-water surf destination. Autumn is the honest prime: serious swell, water still around its warmest, and by late season the real Unstad experience, paddling out in a 6mm hooded suit with snow on the beach and, on the right night, aurora overhead. The bay has hosted the Lofoten Masters, billed as the world's northernmost surf competition, and both schools sit right behind the beach, so beginners get whitewater lessons in summer while the point handles the experts.

September to November is prime swell season; March-April is a solid second window. June-July brings small, friendly midnight-sun waves for learning. Winter is expert-only: heavy suits, short days, serious cold. Wetsuits and boots come with lessons.
