Why here

Queenstown delivers New Zealand's most scenic skydive — freefall above Lake Wakatipu with the Remarkables and Southern Alps filling the horizon. The two operators here jump from different airfields, offering views that range from the Fiordland peaks to the south to the glacier-carved valleys on every side. It pairs naturally with Queenstown's existing adventure culture, making it a logical stop for anyone working through the country's outdoor agenda.

Southern Hemisphere summer (October–April) provides optimal conditions — long days, stable air, and mountain visibility. Altitude options up to 15,000ft. Weather can change rapidly in the mountain environment; expect some rescheduling even in peak season. Winter jumping is possible but subject to more frequent wind holds and overcast periods. Book the first slot of the day to minimise weather delays.

NZONE Skydive

School

New Zealand's original tandem skydiving operation, NZONE Skydive has been running jumpers over Queenstown since 1990 — the year tandem skydiving came to the country. They jump from the Queenstown Airport area, delivering freefall with Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables directly below. Jump altitudes go to 15,000ft. NZONE has completed over 460,000 tandem skydives, holds New Zealand's Supreme Tourism Award, and remains the most recognised skydiving brand in the South Island.

Skydive Paradise

School

Skydive Paradise operates from Glenorchy Airfield, 45 minutes west of Queenstown on the road to Milford Sound — the same backcountry landscape used for Lord of the Rings. Freefall here is over the Dart River valley and Fiordland peaks, with the Rees and Dart glaciers visible from altitude. The more remote setting means smaller groups and a less crowded dropzone than Queenstown Airport operations. Tandem jumps from 12,000 and 15,000ft; shuttle transfers available from Queenstown.
