Rock Climbing in SuescaCO

A sandstone escarpment an hour north of Bogota where Colombian climbing was born eighty years ago. Over 500 routes line a two-kilometre cliff above a rail line and a town that runs on climbers.

Why here

Suesca is Colombia's climbing school: a two-kilometre sandstone wall with more than 500 routes from beginner slabs to 5.13 test pieces, split about evenly between sport and trad, all ten minutes' walk from a town of climber cafes and gear shops. Nowhere else in the country concentrates this much instruction, from first-time top-rope days to multi-day courses that take you from zero to leading, and the crag's eighty-year history gives it the worn-in, generational feel of the world's classic training grounds. An hour from Bogota, it turns a capital layover into a climbing trip.

Climbable year-round in Bogota's cool highland climate; the driest, most reliable windows are December through February and July through August, with the April-May and October-November rains costing more days. The cliff faces west, so mornings stay cool and afternoons bring sun and, in season, showers.
