Rock Climbing in RailayTH
A car-free peninsula on the Andaman coast of Krabi Province, accessible only by longtail boat. Limestone towers rise straight from the sea on three sides, holding hundreds of sport climbing routes above some of the most photogenic coastline in Southeast Asia.
Why here
Accessible only by longtail boat, Railay's limestone towers rise straight from the Andaman Sea — making it as much a visual spectacle as a climbing destination. The concentration of deep-water solos, multi-pitch adventures, and beginner-friendly sport routes across Railay East, West, and Thaiwand Wall puts it on every climber's list. Evening light on the karst, a meal at the beach restaurant, salt spray on the approach — sport climbing with genuinely tropical context.
Best months
November through April is dry season and peak climbing conditions. Rock is grippy, days warm but manageable, and the views are unobstructed. May through October brings monsoon rains; rock stays wet for days after heavy rain and some routes become genuinely slippery. Experienced climbers find windows in the wet season, but beginners should target November–April.
Getting there & around
Fly to Krabi (regular connections from Bangkok and regional hubs). Longtail boats to Railay depart from Ao Nang (15 minutes) and Krabi Town pier. No vehicles on the peninsula — everything is on foot. Gear hire is available from all climbing schools. Book accommodation ahead in the peak window (December–February); it fills fast.
