Martial Arts Training in February

Chiang Mai gives Muay Thai camp life; Bangkok gives the sport itself. This is the Mecca: Rajadamnern, the world's first Muay Thai stadium, has run since 1945, Lumpinee carries equal weight, and the capital's gyms are where the elite actually train. Yokkao's programs were designed by Saenchai and Singdam, living legends, five minutes from Asoke station, and Petchyindee, established 1976 and the first Thai gym to apply sports science, hosts around a hundred foreigners a month with beds on site. The immersion loop is unique: train beside ranked fighters in the afternoon, then watch them compete at the stadium that evening, four-plus fight nights a week, all year.

Chiang Mai

Thailand
$ BudgetMedium crowds

Chiang Mai is where Muay Thai training stops being a tourist add-on and becomes a lifestyle. The city hosts dozens of gyms, from raw fighter-focused camps on the outskirts to polished operations with English-speaking trainers, and the cost of living lets you train twice a day for weeks without straining your budget. The fight scene is active year-round, so dedicated students can test themselves in a real stadium bout. Between sessions, you are in one of Southeast Asia's most liveable cities: old-city temples, mountain air, and a community of long-stay travelers who came for a week and stayed for a season.

Capoeira has academies on every continent, but it has one birthplace. Mestre Bimba opened Brazil's first capoeira academy in Salvador in 1932, the roda is on UNESCO's intangible heritage list, and in the Pelourinho you train inside the colonial streets where the art formed. Schools run by Bimba's own lineage still hold weekday classes and Saturday rodas with berimbau and atabaque played live, drop-ins welcome for the price of a sandwich. Training here means learning the music, the history, and the movement as one thing, which is exactly what exported capoeira has to separate.
