Canyoning in Sierra de GuaraES

Europe's canyoning capital: more than 60 equipped limestone canyons in one Aragonese natural park, with the villages of Alquezar and Rodellar built around the sport.

Why here

European canyoning grew up in the Sierra de Guara, and it shows: more than 60 equipped canyons, the Vero, Mascun, Peonera, Gorgas Negras, concentrated in one natural park, with Alquezar and Rodellar functioning as dedicated canyoning villages where the oldest operators have guided for three decades. The grade spectrum is the widest in Europe, family aquatic hikes to committing expedition descents, and 300-plus days of sun keep the water warm enough for light wetsuits through the summer. The Vero canyon's rock-art is UNESCO listed, so even the walls have a story.

May through October, with June to September the peak; some canyons close in spring for nesting raptors. Water levels are friendliest mid-summer. Guided groups book out two to four weeks ahead in July and August.
