Canyoning in Omis
The old pirate town where the Cetina canyon meets the sea, and where Dalmatia's klapa harmonies keep their festival home.
Why here
The Cetina river carves its final canyon straight through the mountains behind Omis before emptying into the Adriatic at the old pirate town's beach, and that gorge is Croatia's canyoning benchmark: the standard route swims and slides through polished limestone from around fifty euros, while the extreme line abseils sixty meters beside the Velika Gubavica waterfall. Operators run April to October with groups capped near ten, insurance-backed and equipment included, and the finish line is literally the town beach. Few canyons anywhere end with the option of dinner a hundred meters from the last jump.
Best months
May to September core season, April and October shoulder. Swimming ability is required; the basic route suits fit beginners, the Gubavica abseil route needs a head for exposure. Water stays cold in early season, wetsuits provided.
Getting there & around
Omis is thirty minutes from Split along the coast road; operators shuttle to the canyon entries. Combine with the klapa festival row for the town's other identity.
