The Cannes Film Festival is the world's most prestigious cinema event, 12 days in May when the Croisette becomes the global center of the film industry. For attendees without industry credentials the experience is still substantial: the parallel sections (Directors' Fortnight, Critics' Week, Un Certain Regard) are publicly accessible, red carpet viewings are free to anyone with patience, and the town itself transforms into a concentrated film culture moment unlike anywhere else. The Marché du Film runs simultaneously and is open to industry badge holders of all levels.

What to expect
Festival runs approximately 12 days in mid-to-late May. Main Competition screenings require accreditation, but public screenings are available, queue early. The Croisette and the beaches become the social center; the atmosphere is accessible even without a badge. May weather on the Côte d'Azur is reliably warm (20-25°C) with long evenings.
Getting there & around
Cannes is 30 minutes from Nice Côte d'Azur airport. Accommodation prices spike 3-5x during the festival, book 6+ months ahead or consider staying in Nice and commuting by train (35 minutes). Accreditation is open to film industry professionals; public can attend parallel sections without credentials. The town is very walkable during the festival.
