Why here

Vardavar is Armenia's nationwide water festival and the most fun a stranger can legally have in Yerevan: on the Feast of the Transfiguration, ninety-eight days after Armenian Easter, the whole country throws water at itself, and Republic Square becomes a city-wide water fight with buckets, bottles, and fire hoses all fair play. The rite is older than the church that absorbed it, rooted in the cult of the goddess Astghik, which is why no one organizes it and everyone runs it. Foreigners are prime targets and full participants; dry dignity does not survive the morning. The 2027 edition falls on July 4.

Annual, ninety-eight days after Armenian Easter: July 4 in 2027. Everything electronic goes in a dry bag or stays home. Mid-summer Yerevan heat makes the soaking a mercy.
