Why here
Diving from the crown of Stari Most has been documented since 1664, and the tradition survived even the bridge's destruction in 1993: when the rebuilt arch opened in 2004, the divers went straight back over the rail. The Mostari diving club keeps the tradition, collects the crowd's marks before each daily leap in season, and holds the traditional competition on the last Sunday of July, the 460th edition falling on July 26 2026, with the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series adding its own Mostar stop days later. For visitors who want more than watching, the club trains newcomers from the low practice platforms up to the full 24-meter jump, with lifetime club membership included; untrained jumps have killed people, and the club's gate is the only honest way over the rail.
Best months
Daily tip-funded jumps run roughly May to September around midday. The traditional competition falls on the last Sunday of July: July 26 2026, July 25 2027. Jumping yourself requires club training and sign-off, strong swimming, and a cold-water tolerance the Neretva will test.
Getting there & around
Mostar is two hours from Sarajevo and easily reached from Dubrovnik or Split. Competition Sunday packs the riverbanks; arrive early. Practice jumps cost around ten euros, the full bridge jump about twenty after club approval.
