Why here
The Feria de las Flores is Medellin at its proudest: ten days of more than a hundred events across the city, culminating in the Desfile de Silleteros, when hundreds of campesino flower growers from Santa Elena carry elaborate flower arrangements, some the size of cartwheels and generations in the family, on their backs through the city as their grandparents carried produce and people up the mountain paths. The city government runs the whole feria with a published program, most of it free: orchid exhibitions at the botanical garden, antique car parades, tango nights, and concerts filling every comuna. It is the best week of the year to be in Medellin, and the silletero parade is one of Latin America's great folk processions.
Best months
Held annually across late July and the first ten days of August; the 2026 edition runs July 31 to August 9, with the silletero parade on the final day. Dates and the full program are published by the mayor's office each year. Medellin's eternal-spring weather holds in August: warm days, cool evenings, a chance of afternoon rain.
Getting there & around
Fly into Medellin (MDE). Most feria events are free and spread across the city, reachable by metro; the silletero parade route grandstands sell tickets, while the length of the route is free standing room. Book accommodation two to three months out for feria week, and add a trip up to Santa Elena beforehand to see the silletero farms preparing.
