Why here
The Dubrovnik Summer Festival has run since 1950 and remains Croatia's flagship performing-arts event: around forty-seven days of theatre, opera, ballet, and classical music staged not in halls but in the city itself, Hamlet on Lovrjenac Fort's ramparts, chamber music in the Rector's Palace atrium, performances on Revelin's terrace and Lokrum island. The 2026 edition, the seventy-seventh, runs July 10 to August 25 with roughly eighty events inside the walled city. It is site-specific theatre at a scale nowhere else attempts, in a city that already plays itself.
Best months
Annual, July 10 to August 25 in 2026. Open-air performances start late to dodge the heat; tickets for Lovrjenac productions sell out first. August in Dubrovnik is peak crowds, so book beds months out.
Getting there & around
Dubrovnik airport is thirty minutes out; all venues are inside or beside the walls. Day trips to Lokrum performances go by the regular ferry.
