Art Dubai is the leading art fair of the Middle East, and the moment each spring when the region's contemporary and modern galleries, plus a strong showing from Africa, South Asia and the wider Global South, gather under one roof at Madinat Jumeirah. Founded in 2007, it built its reputation on discovery rather than blue-chip spectacle: this is where you find artists and galleries from places the big Western fairs overlook, alongside a serious digital-art section and a programme of talks and commissions. The fair anchors a wider Dubai Art Season, so the galleries of Alserkal Avenue and the city's museums time their best shows to coincide. For a traveller it is a chance to take the pulse of art from a swathe of the world in a few concentrated days.
Best months
Art Dubai runs annually over four days in spring, usually in April, at Madinat Jumeirah. The 2026 twentieth-anniversary edition was rescheduled to May 14 to 17; the 2027 dates are expected back in spring but were not yet published at the time of writing. Spring weather is warm and comfortable. Entry has in some years been free, but preview and VIP access is ticketed, and the fair is busiest at weekends.
Getting there & around
The fair is held at Madinat Jumeirah on Dubai's coast, easily reached by taxi or ride-hailing. Pair it with the galleries of Alserkal Avenue and the city's museums during Dubai Art Season. Check the official site for the current year's exact dates and ticketing before planning around it.
