Why here

Songkran is the world's largest water fight layered over the genuine Thai New Year, UNESCO-inscribed in 2023, and Bangkok is its flagship stage: the city surrenders to three days of ritual and soaking, temple merit-making and elder blessings in the morning, Silom and Khao San as the street-battle epicenters by noon. The Tourism Authority of Thailand's Maha Songkran festival scales it further, a grand parade, drone shows, and nightly concerts at Benchakitti Park bracketing the traditional dates. There is no dry option and no spectator class: buy a water gun or become a target, which is precisely the point.

Best months

April 13-15 every year, with the TAT's Maha Songkran program extending a day or two around it. April is Thailand's hottest month, which is why a national water fight makes perfect sense. Book rooms months ahead and waterproof everything you carry.
