Europe's highest capital at around 1,000 meters, set where two mountain rivers meet, a compact duty-free shopping city under the peaks and the seat of Andorra's parliament in the medieval Casa de la Vall.
No organizer, no ticket office. This is a living tradition, and the way in is simply to be there; guides get you inside it.

Why here
The Falles d'Andorra are the country's fire festival, held on the night of Sant Joan around the summer solstice, and part of the wider Summer Solstice Fire Festivals of the Pyrenees that UNESCO recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2015. Young fallaires carry flaming torches down from the mountainside into the towns, tracing lines of fire through the dark before a great bonfire is lit in the square, a rite marking the passage into adulthood and the renewal of the community. Andorra la Vella, Encamp and Sant Julia de Loria all keep the tradition, with folk dancing, shared meals and the smell of woodsmoke. There is no ticket and no stage, just a living custom you are welcome to watch.
Best months
The falles burn on the night of 23 June, the eve of Sant Joan, with some parishes also lighting fires for Sant Pere at the end of June. It is a free street event centerd on the town squares after dark; arrive in the evening, expect crowds and open flame, and follow the marshals. Nights at altitude are cool even in June.
Getting there & around
The Sant Joan fires take place in the town centers of Andorra la Vella and neighboring parishes and need no booking. There is no airport or railway in Andorra, so arrival is by car or coach from Barcelona or Toulouse. The parish councils publish the evening's program in the days before; the torch descent and the bonfire are the highlight, so come for the night.
