Armenia claims one of the world's oldest winemaking traditions, dating back to 6,100 BC, and its flagship grape Areni delivers medium bodied reds with aging potential from volcanic soil, elevated terrain and vines aged 35 years and older. Yerevan's Saryan Street has developed into the country's high street of wine tasting, Wine Days transforms the city every June, and the Areni village wine festival falls in October during harvest season. Armenian Wine School, the country's only WSET approved programme provider, teaches Levels 1 to 3 at venues around Yerevan on weekday evenings and Saturdays, led by founder and educator Arpine Manukyan, DipWSET.

Wine Days takes over central Yerevan every June and the Areni village festival is held in October, when vineyards are busy with harvest and cellars are full; an August wine festival runs in Dilijan, north of the capital. Visitors may carry up to two liters of Armenian wine home in a suitcase.

Armenian Wine School
SchoolArmenian Wine School, operated by The Wine School LLC, describes itself as Armenia's only WSET approved programme provider, teaching Levels 1 to 3 in wines. Courses are led by founder and educator Arpine Manukyan, DipWSET, and are held at venues around Yerevan on weekday evenings and Saturdays according to each course schedule. The school takes enrolment inquiries by email and phone and also sells gift certificates.
