Verona sits on the edge of the Valpolicella, the valley behind the city that produces Valpolicella Classico and Amarone della Valpolicella. Most grapes there are harvested between September and October, with early ripening varieties starting between August and September and late ripening ones gathered into November for the region's dried grape wines. The WSET register lists three approved programme providers in the city, and Grande Passione, based in Verona, teaches WSET Levels 1 to 3 alongside writing, hospitality and curated wine experiences.
Best months
Most Valpolicella grapes are picked between September and October; early ripening varieties start between August and September and late ripening ones are gathered between October and November, sometimes into December. Timing shifts with variety and site, since south facing vineyards on well drained soils ripen earlier.
