Why here

The southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus between 600 and 1,000 meters are Azerbaijan's best terroir, and the Ismayilli district is where the country's post-Soviet wine revival takes visitors seriously: Chabiant farms some 270 hectares with guided vineyard and cellar tours, tastings around thirty manat, and a guest house among the vines, while Savalan ASPI, founded 2007 in the adjacent valley, runs English-language tours of production and cellars plus a Baku degustation center. Azerbaijani wine ran to 100-plus million liters in the Soviet era before Gorbachev's vine-pulling; the estates rebuilding it now pour indigenous Madrasa alongside international varieties, with the mountains doing the backdrop work.

May to October, with harvest in September. Tastings book ahead by a day; a driver matters, distances between estates are real. Note Savalan's valley is technically the neighboring Gabala district.
