Wine / Spirits Education in Goriska BrdaSI
Slovenia's slice of Collio: Rebula terraces and the heartland of the orange-wine revival, tasted in winemaker-led cellars.
Why here
Goriska Brda sits on the Slovenian side of Collio, and it is the heartland of the orange-wine revival: skin-macerated Rebula that spends months on its skins in ways the region never stopped doing while the rest of the world forgot, now covered by Decanter and Suckling as a region in its own right. The education is winemaker-led by design. Movia has been in the Kristancic family since 1820 and runs biodynamic cellar visits where the philosophy arrives with the pour, and Klet Brda, Slovenia's largest cellar, unites four hundred growing families and opens the historic de Baguer cellar for structured tastings. Reservation-only, small-room, and argued over glasses; the tourist bus does not stop here.
Best months
April to June and September to November are the seasons, with harvest in September and St Martin's Day on November 11 as the cultural peak. Tastings are pre-booked at 25-35 euros with minimum group sizes for meals at some estates. A designated driver or transfer is the honest plan.
Getting there & around
Forty-five minutes from Nova Gorica, two hours from Ljubljana; a car is essential among the hilltop villages. Pair with the Vipava Valley across the ridge for a two-region wine itinerary.
