Wine / Spirits Education in Dealu Mare
Romania's Bordeaux-latitude red wine heartland, where Feteasca Neagra leads the country's quality revolution.
Why here
Dealu Mare rides the 45th parallel, Bordeaux's latitude, and it is the engine of Romania's post-1989 wine revolution, led by Feteasca Neagra, the native red the country is betting its reputation on. The estates teach it properly: SERVE was Romania's first private winery, founded in 1994 by a Corsican count who saw the terroir before the market did, and LacertA pours structured tastings, three or six wines from a fourteen-wine range, at a restored 1901 estate. Ninety minutes from Bucharest, nearly untouristed, and priced like the secret it still is: this is Europe's best-value serious red wine education.
Best months
Tastings run year-round by reservation; September-October is harvest. Midweek visits have the cellars to themselves. A note for the file: SERVE was acquired by Moldova's Purcari group in 2026, so watch for branding changes.
Getting there & around
Ninety minutes to two hours from Bucharest; a driver is the sensible tasting-day plan. Ceptura and Fintesti anchor the estate circuit.
