Best months
Snowmelt from the Ottawa Valley feeds the river May through September. Peak flows May–June create the biggest, most powerful conditions — the Lorne and McCoy's waves are at their best. July–August offers consistent warm-water conditions ideal for instruction and groups. Water temperature 16–22°C by July; wetsuits recommended in May–June. Main channels are the Middle Ottawa (most popular) and the Main channel — both offer Class IV–V.
Getting there & around
Fly to Ottawa or Montreal, then drive ~2 hrs west along the Trans-Canada Highway. Wilderness Tours, Esprit, and OWL Rafting all have large resort facilities with camping, accommodation, and meals. Day trips and multi-day packages both available. The Ottawa Valley is well-connected and easy to navigate independently. Best to book 2–4 weeks ahead for summer weekends.
