The Una is the greenest whitewater in the Balkans: travertine barriers turn the river a mineral emerald and stack it into cascades, and the flagship descent puts in below Strbacki buk, a 24-meter waterfall system that is Una National Park's signature image, then runs fifteen kilometers of Class II-III through the heart of the park. IRF-licensed local outfits run it daily in season with park entry bundled, and a gentler family stage on the Kostela section keeps the day honest for mixed groups. Bosnia's first RTG rows start here because the Una is the argument in one image: this is what the Balkans' rivers looked like before concrete.
Best months
The season runs roughly April to October, with May to September the reliable core. The Strbacki buk stage wants swimmers aged sixteen and up; the family stage takes children. Water stays cold and wetsuits come with the trip.
Getting there & around
Bihac is two hours from Zagreb and thirty minutes from Plitvice, which makes a Croatia combination easy. Operators bundle guides, insurance, and the park entrance fee.
