Scuba Diving in Weissensee
A Carinthian lake that freezes into Europe's largest groomed natural ice surface, home of the Alternative Elfstedentocht skating marathons every January.

Europe's largest naturally frozen lake surface, and one of the few places you can train and dive under ice with an established operator rather than an expedition.
Best months
Ice diving runs December to February and is entirely dependent on the freeze. Training and tethered technique are mandatory. The lake also dives normally in summer.

Diving Weissensee
SchoolDiving Weissensee is based at the Strandbad Stockenboi, Mosel 11, on the eastern shore of Lake Weissensee in Carinthia, and is registered with SSI under Sebastian Feigl and Michaela Trum. Its summer season runs from early May to mid-September, with all-inclusive ice-diving weekends by advance reservation between late January and early March. SSI lists scuba, freediving, mermaid, extended range, snorkelling and lifeguard programmes at the site, and the school teaches from beginner level up to Divemaster. It also rents canoes and stand-up paddleboards and offers accommodation.
Tauchschule Yachtdiver Weissensee
SchoolPADI dive school at Techendorf 46 on the Weissensee, internationally known for ice diving courses December to February, and diving the lake normally the rest of the year.
