Visibility 15-30m, clearest Dec-Apr during NE monsoon. Water temp 26-30°C. Channel diving in 1-3 knot currents — intermediate buoyancy skills required. Whale sharks at South Ari Atoll year-round. Mantas at Baa Atoll (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve): Jan-May at Hanifaru Bay in extraordinary numbers. Hammerheads at Rasdhoo Atoll: early morning, 30-40m. Thila dives (submerged pinnacles) for intermediate divers; channel and pelagic dives for advanced.
Getting there & around
Fly to Velana International Airport, Male — well-connected from Europe, Middle East, and Asia. Transfer to resort by seaplane (20-30 min, spectacular, operates dawn to dusk only) or speedboat (1-5 hours). Book seaplane transfers 3-6 months ahead — seats fill during peak season. Liveaboards depart from Male marina: best value for dedicated divers covering multiple atolls. All dives resort-organized; no self-guided diving.
