Best months
Visibility 30-60m — among the clearest in the Caribbean. Water temp 25-28°C year-round. Drift diving: current runs south to north along the west coast at 0.5-2 knots — let the current carry you, minimal swimming required. Palancar Reef: spur-and-groove wall and swim-throughs at 12-40m. Santa Rosa Wall: vertical drop starting at 15m. Eagle rays, reef sharks, sea turtles, and barracuda schools common. Splendid toadfish is endemic to Cozumel — found only here.
Getting there & around
Direct flights from major US cities to Cozumel International Airport. From Cancun or Playa del Carmen: passenger ferry 35 minutes. All dive operations in San Miguel; most do hotel pickups. No car needed. Combine with Yucatan cenote diving (day trips from Playa del Carmen to Dos Ojos, Gran Cenote). Cruise ship port — mornings can be busy at popular sites; afternoon diving often better.
