Photography Expeditions in Danube Delta
Europe's greatest wetland, a UNESCO biosphere of pelican colonies and golden jackals, shot from floating, tower, and buried hides.
Why here
The Danube Delta is Europe's greatest wetland, a UNESCO biosphere holding over three hundred bird species including the continent's key Dalmatian pelican strongholds, and its photography infrastructure has matured into the real thing: the Periprava reserve alone runs twenty-plus purpose-built hides, floating, tower, buried, and drinking-pool, and the area rates as Europe's best site for photographing golden jackals. Access is boat-only, the lodges are remote, and the operators are photo-first by design rather than birding tours with cameras tolerated. Spring delivers the breeding colonies in full color; autumn funnels the migration through the reeds.
Best months
April to June covers breeding and the pelican colonies; September to October is migration. Hides book by the session with dawn starts; long-lens field craft matters more than fitness. Boat transfers are part of every day's plan.
Getting there & around
Fly or drive to Tulcea, then boat; Mila 23 and Periprava are the hubs. Operators bundle lodges, boats, and hide schedules; bring more cards than you think.
