Music at the Source in SevilleES
Andalusia's capital and the city most associated with flamenco — its historic neighborhoods of Triana and Santa Cruz are where the art form matured, and where serious schools have taught it for generations.
Why here
Flamenco was born in Andalusia and grew up in Seville's Triana and Santa Cruz neighbourhoods. This is where the serious schools are — institutions like the Fundación Cristina Heeren attract students who want to study the art form properly rather than watch a tablao show. The city's density of working flamenco artists means you're learning alongside people for whom this is a vocation.
Best months
Flamenco is practiced year-round indoors, so weather is not a factor. April and May coincide with the Feria de Abril, when flamenco dress and spirit flood the streets — an extraordinary bonus. Summer (July–August) is extremely hot but school schedules continue. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons.
Getting there & around
Seville is well connected by AVE high-speed train from Madrid (2.5 hours) and direct flights from major European cities. The historic centre is walkable. Most flamenco schools are in or near the old town. Accommodation ranges from budget hostels to boutique hotels in restored palaces.
