Language Immersion in Salamanca
Home of Spain's oldest university (1218) and the benchmark Castilian accent: a golden-sandstone UNESCO city built around eight centuries of teaching.
Why here
Salamanca has been the reference city for learning Spanish since before Spanish was a world language: the university opened in 1218, the local Castilian is the accent textbooks describe, and foreign students have come here for over a century. The old town is a golden-sandstone UNESCO site small enough to live entirely on foot, dense with Instituto Cervantes accredited schools; Tia Tula doubles as an official DELE and CCSE exam center, so you can study and certify in one place. A high student-to-resident ratio keeps prices down and immersion up in a way Madrid and Barcelona cannot match.
Best months
Year-round with rolling Monday starts. September through June has the full university-city atmosphere; summer brings the international-student peak and the liveliest plazas. Winters are cold and clear on the meseta.
Getting there & around
Fly to Madrid (MAD), then about 1 hour 40 minutes by direct train or bus. Schools arrange homestays and residences; book multi-week programs four to eight weeks ahead.
