Kitesurfing in Ulcinj
Twelve kilometers of sand at Velika Plaza and the Ada Bojana delta: the eastern Adriatic's best beginner kite water.
Why here
Velika Plaza is a twelve-to-fourteen-kilometer sand beach with a daily afternoon thermal that makes it arguably the best beginner kitesurfing water on the eastern Adriatic: flat, shallow, sandy-bottomed, and empty by Mediterranean standards. The Ada Bojana river-island delta at its southern end adds a protected dune-and-marsh backdrop, and the schools are the real thing rather than beach concessions: Kiteloop is an IKO center licensed to run instructor training courses, one of few in the region, and Dragon Project has taught windsurf and kite here since the 1990s with IKO, BKSA, and RYA qualified instructors. Lessons cost half what the famous spots charge, which for a learning week is the entire argument.
Best months
May to September is the season, with the afternoon thermal most reliable June through August: mornings glassy for foil and beginners' theory, afternoons working. Lessons run around 50-60 euros an hour and the three-day learn-to-ride formats are standard.
Getting there & around
Fly to Podgorica or Tirana, each about ninety minutes away. The kite zone sits at the Ada Bojana end of the beach; accommodation runs from kite camps to Ulcinj town ten minutes north.
