Kitesurfing in NaxosGR

The Cyclades' kite island: the meltemi accelerates through the Naxos-Paros strait onto Mikri Vigla beach, delivering 20-plus windy days a month all summer.

Why here

The meltemi is the Aegean's summer engine, and the Naxos-Paros strait is where it works hardest: a Venturi acceleration that makes Mikri Vigla one of the most reliably windy beaches in the Mediterranean, 20 to 25 windy days a month through July and August at four to seven Beaufort. The beach splits its personality perfectly, flat-water lagoon side for learners, waves on the other, with a dedicated kite zone and two long-established IKO schools, one teaching here since 1997, plus kite-hotel lodging steps from the launch. It is the Greek island holiday where the wind is the itinerary rather than the annoyance.

June to mid-September is the meltemi season, strongest in July and August; May and late September are gentler shoulders suited to first lessons. Mornings run lighter, afternoons deliver the power.
