Kitesurfing in Heraklion

Greece ยท Southern Europe

Crete's capital and culinary center, home to the island's finest food market, the Peza PDO wine region on its doorstep, and some of the best Cretan cooking schools in the eastern Mediterranean.

Why here

The north-coast beaches west of Heraklion catch the summer meltemi, with IKO-affiliated schools working the Amoudara and Arina stretches.

Crete's wind reputation belongs mostly to windsurfing at Kouremenos in the east; the kite schools are concentrated here on the north coast instead.

Iraklio Kite Club (iKiTe)

School

Iraklio Kite Club (iKiTe) operates a beach facility about 4 km from Heraklion city centre and a 14-minute drive from Heraklion Airport, west of the city's municipal swimming centre. IKO's school record names it "Iraklio Kite Club - iKiTe" in Heraklion, Greece, with owner Panagiotis Zoitos, and describes it as the first IKO-affiliated kiteboarding club in Crete. The site offers kiteboarding, wing foiling and windsurfing, with a shop, beach bar, showers and parking, and states it is licensed by the local authorities and certified by the Hellenic Coast Guard. The IKO record was readable only on IKO's d8 subdomain and shows 2021 season dates, so the listing may be stale.
