Kitesurfing in Hel Peninsula
A 35-kilometre sandbar curving into the Baltic off northern Poland, separating the open sea from the shallow Bay of Puck. Its warm, waist-deep flat-water lagoon on the bay side and steady sea breezes make the villages of Chalupy, Jastarnia and Jurata Poland's kitesurfing heartland.
Why here
The Hel Peninsula is the best place to learn and progress at kitesurfing in Poland. On the bay side, the shallow Puck lagoon runs waist-deep for hundreds of metres with a sandy bottom, no reef and no real tide, so beginners can stand up and learn in flat, forgiving water while the open Baltic on the far shore offers waves for the experienced. A narrow sandbar means you can usually find a launch with wind from almost any direction, and the strip from Chalupy through Jastarnia to Jurata is packed with schools, rentals and rescue cover. Add long summer days and a wind season that stretches from spring into autumn and it becomes Poland's natural kite classroom.
Best months
The season runs roughly late April to October, with the flat bay-side lagoon busiest and warmest in July and August. Spring and autumn bring stronger and more frequent wind but colder water that calls for a thicker wetsuit. The lagoon is beginner-friendly and shallow; the sea side is for those who can already ride. Summer weekends and holidays crowd the launch beaches, so early starts help.
Getting there & around
The peninsula is reached by road or rail from the Tricity of Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot, about an hour and a half away, with seasonal trains along the sandbar to Chalupy, Jastarnia and Hel. Schools cluster at Chalupy and Jastarnia with gear rental, storage and rescue; book courses ahead in July and August. Bring or hire a wetsuit for cooler shoulder-season water, and check daily wind and which shore is working.

Kite Zone
SchoolKite Zone is a kitesurfing school at Camping Chalupy 3 on the Hel Peninsula, founded in 1999 by Igor Czernik, Poland's first national kiteboarding champion in 2001, and it calls itself the longest-running kite school in the country. It teaches in the shallow, flat water of the Bay of Puck with IKO-certified instructors and holds level-two status with the Polish Kiteboarding Association, PZKite, so it can run instructor courses and issue progression cards.
Surfpoint
SchoolSurfpoint is a kitesurfing school on the Hel Peninsula with around twenty years of operation, teaching from bases at Jurata and the Pod Cyprysami campsite in Jastarnia on the Bay of Puck. Its instructors hold IKO, VDWS and Polish Kiteboarding Association licences, and its structured courses run from a four-hour IKO 1 introduction through to full independent-rider and instructor certification, plus youth camps for ages thirteen to nineteen. It rents Cabrinha and Nobile gear.
