Kitesurfing in Burgas

Bulgaria · Eastern Europe

The Black Sea bay whose shallow, sandy, side-onshore water is Bulgaria's kiteboarding classroom.

Why here

Burgas Bay is the Bulgarian Black Sea's teaching benchmark for kiteboarding: shallow, sandy-bottomed, side-onshore water at Sarafovo with steady summer bay winds, taught by schools that brought IKO certification to the country, at prices and crowd levels the Mediterranean cannot match. It will not headline a wind-chasing career, but as the place to go from zero to riding in a week for a fraction of Tarifa's cost, with a working Bulgarian port city rather than a resort strip behind it, the value case is complete. The wilder Krapets beach to the north waits for a future row once its schools verify.

May to September is the schools' season with the steadiest bay wind June to August. Beginners are the core clientele; IKO course ladders run through the summer. Water warms to comfortably swimmable by July.
