Dedicated freediving schools operate year-round at Los Tarajales and Tabaiba Bay, and the volcanic seafloor creates dramatic drop-offs accessible close to shore. Visibility 20-30m year-round. Water temp 18°C January-March, 24°C August-September. Tabaiba Bay: completely sheltered from swell and current, consistent flat-water surface conditions year-round — the primary training anchor. Los Tarajales beach: varied topography from 5m to open Atlantic, good for skills and depth progression. Volcanic seafloor: dramatic lava formations with good visibility and no silt. Marine life: Atlantic rays, endemic Canary damselfish, jack schools, moray eels. No thermocline — consistent temperature from surface to training depth.
Getting there & around
Direct flights from London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, and most European cities to Tenerife South Airport (TFS) — 4-hour flight from most Western European capitals. Car hire advisable: schools are in the southwest of the island around Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas. Year-round operation means no seasonal planning required. Schools (Atlantis Freediving, various AIDA/SSI operators) offer day sessions, structured courses, and week-long training camps. Budget to mid accommodation throughout the south. Combine with Teide National Park and the ancient Masca gorge.
