Freediving in KaşTR
A small Aegean resort town with one of the most accessible deep-water training environments in the world. Competition-depth lines are set within a short swim from the beach, making Kaş a favourite base for AIDA and Molchanovs coaches and their students in summer and early autumn.
Why here
Kaş is where the Mediterranean delivers competition conditions from shore. Within a five-minute swim, the water drops beyond 100m in clear, flat conditions — the kind of depth access that normally requires expensive liveaboards or remote expedition logistics. AIDA and Molchanovs coaches have based themselves here specifically for this infrastructure, offering full curricula from beginner to instructor. The added context of ancient Lycian ruins, a sunken city visible from the surface, and the relaxed pace of a small fishing town makes extended training stays genuinely enjoyable rather than purely functional.
Best months
Visibility 25-40m. Water temp 20°C in May, 28°C August-September, cooling to 22°C by October. No thermocline in summer. Depth access: competition lines at 15m, 30m, and 60m within shore swim; 100m+ within a short boat ride. Surface conditions calm May-October. Main sites: Kaş Bay training area, the competitive freediving point (5-min swim, anchor at 60m), Dimitri Koster wreck at 27-40m. Occasional loggerhead turtle. No current at training sites.
Getting there & around
