Why go

Sinulog is the Philippines at full volume: a grand parade of costumed dance troupes drumming through Cebu City in honor of the Santo Nino, the child Christ image that dates to Magellan's landing, drawn out over a week of processions, street parties, and a river of pilgrims through the basilica. It is among the largest festivals in Asia by attendance, and unlike the region's community festivals it has a real organizer, the Sinulog Foundation working with the city government, which means published dates, a program, and grandstand tickets for the main parade. The fluvial procession on Saturday and the Sunday grand parade are the anchors; the days around them belong to the street.

When it runs

Held annually on the third Sunday of January.

What to expect

Held annually on the third Sunday of January, with the fluvial procession the Saturday before and events building through the preceding week. Upcoming grand parade dates: January 17, 2027 and January 16, 2028. January is Cebu's cool, dry season, comfortable for a full day outdoors in a crowd measured in the millions.

Getting there & around

Fly into Cebu (CEB), served internationally and from every Philippine hub. Book accommodation two to three months ahead for Sinulog week and expect road closures across the city center on the parade weekend; stay within walking distance of Osmena Boulevard if the parade is your priority. Grandstand tickets for the grand parade are sold through the official program; the street experience needs no ticket at all.
