Why go
Seu is Curacao's harvest festival, and its Easter Monday parade is one of the oldest and most joyful expressions of the island's Afro-Curacaoan culture. The tradition goes back to the era of slavery, when the successful gathering of the sorghum and maize crops was marked with thanksgiving, music and dance, a rare release from the hardship of plantation life. Revived and reshaped as a public cultural celebration in the 1970s, it now brings more than three thousand people onto the streets of Willemstad in a slow, swaying procession. Groups march in traditional dress, the women in bright checked dresses and headscarves, carrying baskets and farm tools, moving to the rhythm of the wiri scraper, the tambu drum and the chapi hoe struck like a bell, in the distinctive stepping dance that imitates the work of sowing and reaping. The route winds through the Otrobanda district, and the whole thing is a living link to the island's agricultural past and to the music and language, Papiamentu, that grew out of it. It is a community celebration rather than a show for tourists, and visitors are welcome to line the route or fall in behind the groups and follow the parade through the old town.

What to expect
Seu falls on Easter Monday every year, so the date shifts with the church calendar between late March and late April. The parade is a single long daytime event, hot and busy, so bring sun protection and water and expect large, good-natured crowds along the Otrobanda streets. It is a cultural procession, not a ticketed show, and behaving respectfully as a guest at a community tradition is the right approach. Upcoming Easter Mondays: 29 March 2027 and 17 April 2028.
Getting there & around
The parade takes place in Willemstad, moving through the Otrobanda district on the west side of the harbour channel, roughly 15 minutes from Curacao International Airport. The old town is walkable and the best way to follow the route on foot; roads along the parade are closed and busy, so leave the car and use taxis to reach the area. No ticket is needed, as this is a public street celebration.
