Why go
Flow Festival is the highlight of Helsinki's summer and one of the most distinctive urban festivals in northern Europe. Since 2004 it has taken over Suvilahti, a disused red-brick power plant and gasworks just east of the center, and turned the industrial yard into three August days of music, art, food and design. The bill mixes global headliners with the best of Finnish and Nordic music across a handful of stages, including a striking main stage under the old gasometers, and the 2026 edition brings Florence and the Machine, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Zara Larsson among some 150 artists. What sets Flow apart is the whole package: acclaimed restaurants rather than burger vans, visual-art installations, talks and a strong design sensibility, all on a walkable site you reach by tram from the middle of the city. It is a festival to pair with a Helsinki city break in the brightest, warmest week of the Finnish year.
When it runs

What to expect
Flow runs over three days in mid-August; the 2026 edition is 14 to 16 August at Suvilahti. August in Helsinki is mild but can turn wet, and much of the site is open ground, so bring layers and rain gear. It is a compact urban festival with no on-site camping, so most visitors stay in city hotels and travel in by tram or on foot. Day tickets and multi-day passes sell through the official channels and popular days can sell out, so book ahead.
Getting there & around
Suvilahti sits in the Kalasatama district just east of central Helsinki, a short tram or metro ride from the center and walkable from the eastern neighborhoods. There is no festival camping, so visitors stay in city hotels and hostels, which fill for the weekend, so book early. The airport train and the ferries from Stockholm and Tallinn all land within easy reach of the center and public transport to the site.
