Skiing & Snowsports in Shahdag
Azerbaijan's flagship mountain resort under the 4,243-meter peak that names it, built from scratch since 2012 in the Greater Caucasus.
Why here
Shahdag is Azerbaijan's flagship ski resort, built from nothing since 2012 in the Greater Caucasus near Gusar under the 4,243-meter mountain that names it: thirty-seven slopes across all levels, two ski and mountain schools with international instructors, and a resort village whose hotel stock outclasses its lift-pass prices. The season runs early December to late February or March depending on the year, and summer flips the same lifts to hiking and adventure-park mode. It is Gulf-facing resort tourism meeting Caucasus terrain, which makes for empty morning pistes and instructors with time to actually teach.
Best months
December to March, with January and February the reliable core; lower-mountain snow varies, upper lifts hold it. Pistes favor beginners and intermediates. Book instructors ahead in the New Year peak weeks.
Getting there & around
Three to four hours from Baku by road, 29 kilometers from Gusar; resort shuttles and day tours cover the transfer. On-mountain beds make multi-day stays easy.
