Why here

Kranjska Gora is Slovenia's flagship alpine resort and one of the World Cup's oldest stops: the Vitranc Cup has run on the Podkoren FIS slope since 1961, a fixture of the circuit since 1968. The skiing itself is friendly rather than fierce, twenty kilometers of pistes between 810 and 1,295 meters weighted toward novices and intermediates, plus forty kilometers of cross-country tracks and night skiing under the Kekec and Mojca lifts. Planica's ski-flying hill sits six kilometers up the valley, so a March visit can pair cruising days with the loudest crowd in Slovene sport, and Italy and Austria are both a fifteen-minute drive.

December to March; the low base altitude makes early and late season snow-dependent, with snowmaking covering the core runs. Ideal first-week terrain; experts come for the race slope, not mileage. Night skiing runs to nine on weekend evenings.
