Skiing & Snowsports in Baqueira-BeretES
Spain's premier ski resort in the Val d'Aran: 160-plus kilometers of pistes on the Atlantic side of the Pyrenees, which catches the country's deepest snow.
Why here
Baqueira-Beret sits on the Atlantic-facing side of the Pyrenees, which is why it catches the deepest, most reliable snow in Spain across 160-plus kilometers of pistes, and why the Spanish royal family has skied here for decades. The off-piste is the quiet headline: extensive lift-accessed terrain and one of the Pyrenees' only heliski operations, unusual for the range. Two of Spain's largest ski schools work the mountain, Era Escola with 50 years and 200-plus instructors among them, and the Val d'Aran below is its own cultural microregion, Aranese-speaking, with a village gastronomy that outclasses most Alpine resorts at half the pretension.
Best months
December to early April, with January through March the snow core. Spanish holiday weeks, Christmas, and Easter book out months ahead; ordinary weeks stay comfortable. The Atlantic influence means storms deliver, and also that weather days happen.
Getting there & around
